A Place where Kids Become Friends & Friends Become Family
Coastal Kids is a privately owned Childcare and Kindergarten servicing; Emu Park, Rockhampton, Cawarral, Byfield and Keppel Sand with spacious play areas designed to support children’s learning. This setting, alongside with passionate and nurturing staff will create a holistic environment for your children to grow and thrive.
Coastal Kids is privately owned and operated by our family, Kerrie and Shaun Corrigan. We have three daughters (Molly, Paris and Olivia), and understand the needs of families who are working, studying and commuting each day. We purchased Coastal Kids in August 2006. Previously I (Kerrie) taught at Yeppoon Primary school for five years and Directed Long Day Care centres prior to teaching. Shaun worked in the mines, but once we had our children, he wanted to be closer, so we purchased the business and for many years we all came to work together each day. Since then, Coastal Kids has grown into the welcoming childcare centre it is today. We are passionate about early childcare and our community and cannot wait to welcome you into out Coastal Kids Family.

“Holistic approaches to teaching and learning recognise the connectedness of mind, body and spirit.”
At Coastal Kids, we take a holistic approach and pay attention to children’s physical, personal, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Whilst we plan and assess with a focus on the particular outcome, we see children’s learning as integrated and interconnected. We recognise and value the connections between children, families, the community, and ourselves. We believe an integrated, holistic approach to teaching, learning, and caring also focuses on connections to the natural world; it fosters children’s capacity to understand and respect the natural environment and the interdependence between people, plants, animals, and the land.
Coastal Kids provides a joyful sanctuary where all children, including the youngest of babies, are valued as contributing members of society who have the right to express their views on all matters affecting them. It is our strong belief that all children have the right to play and be active participants in all matters affecting their lives.
Our Curriculum is Early Years Learning Framework. We plan for each day with intentional teaching activities (which have been planned from previous observations of each child) and then may move off in many different activities and experiences as the children enquire, explore, discover, make sense of their world, and lead us in different directions.
Every day both through intentional teaching and through spontaneous activities that have evolved, our curriculum:
Promotes each child’s physical abilities and awareness of making healthy choices for their own body.
Through the implementation of such principles as: “secure, respectful, and reciprocal relationships. Partnerships with families, high expectations and equity, respect for diversity and ongoing learning reflective practice”, we hope to create a culture and practice for all staff that incorporates: “Holistic approaches, responsiveness to children, learning through play, successful learning environments, cultural competence, continuity of learning and transitions and assessment for learning.”
We would like to pay our respect and acknowledge the Dharumbal/Ningebal people, who are traditional people of this country. Let us also acknowledge the rich culture that is still alive today; it is like a fire. We would like to keep this fire burning for years to come.
Nalu Di buri dala guju, Yarraura, malagu, bingarra ningeburra bulin.
(Let us sit by the fire of yesterday, today and tomorrow and feel the smoke of the Dharumbal Ningebal People)
